The recently-opened Le XVI XVI restaurant on Montreal’s Golden Mile is offering the opportunity for a trip to the future of drinking and dining world.
Since September, Montreal is home to R1-B1, the most dashing robot bartender in the world, one that left the robotic arms at Tipsy Robot Las Vegas in the dust. With a crooked grin and sporting a fashionable necktie, R1-B1 entertains patrons both in English and French, all the while bending its versatile arms backwards to grab bottles and glasses and pour drinks.
As we started our visit on the lower-level lounge and said hey to R1-B1, I felt for a few moments transported to the Star Wars universe of R2-D2 and C-3PO.
Drink in hands we moved to our table on the upper-level lounge. While R1-B1 is not the star attraction on the lower-level lounge, ex Manoir Hovey French chef Joris Larigaldie is the one at the helm in the kitchen.
Quail – Pan-fried foie gras, Porto Bello, flavors of the forest
Burnt duck breast – Parsnip, hazelnut and juniper berries
Sea bass – Spinach, mashed potatoes with spruce and black truffle
Paris brest – Praline and pistachio
Wine - Gutturnio superiore Luretta L’Ala del Drago Castello di Momeliano – Piacenza, Emilia Romagna, produce with barbera and bonarda grapes. I loved it, almost as much as the Argentinian Trapiche Broquel Bonarda. Bonarda, which is the second most widely planted red grape in Argentina, after Malbec, was described by someone as Rodney Dangerfield of wine. Known also as Douce noir, Corbeau and Charbono, it is pretty hard to find wines from this grape.
It's fun to live in Montreal.
The epic epicureanism experience continues …
